Participants are encouraged to wear pajamas and donate unused pajamas to underserved youths

Santa Cruz-The Santa Cruz Warriors will celebrate their sixth annual "Pyjama Night" event this weekend.

Encourage basketball fans to bring a new pair of unworn pajamas to the NBA G League Ignite game at the Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday night.

The donated pajamas will be provided to homeless youth and adolescents in Santa Cruz County through the Pajama Project. Fans were also required to wear their pajamas to participate in the game to show their support for non-profit organizations.

The first 1,000 fans who arrive at the Kaiser Permanente Arena will also receive a Santa Cruz Warriors sleeping mask.

Chris Murphy, president of the Santa Cruz Warriors, said that they are very happy to participate in the sixth annual "Pyjama Night" competition with Project Pajamas.

"We work directly with many youth organizations in the community, and we see tonight as a way to give back to children in need," Murphy said.

Project Pajamas was started in 2007 by Judge Ariadne Symons of the Santa Cruz County High Court. The project aims to bring comfort to children in times of crisis, with a focus on homeless children and children in transition.

Some organizations that benefit from Project Pajamas include Walnut Avenue Women's and Children's Shelter, Barrios Unidos, Valley Churches United, CASA, and Rebele Family Homeless Shelter.

Simmons stated that during the 2019-20 Kaiser Permanente Arena pajama night, more than 230 pairs of pajamas were donated and distributed through Project Pajamas.

"The pajama night at Kaiser Permanente Arena is a great way to clarify this issue, and it's also a fun and simple way for people to donate," Simmons said.
